Relaxing fall break

We had a relaxing fall break weekend, just what we all needed!

Wednesday night started off with a movie night, lots of reading, and playing around and we made mug brownies.  Then on Thursday, we cleaned a lot and hung out and got ready to go to Thermopolis, WY, home of the world's largest mineral hot springs.

We read books and listened to music in the car, stopped for dinner in Cody, and started watching a movie.  We saw lots of deer but luckily didn't hit any.  We arrived at our hotel and checked in, watched the Lego Movie 2 with popcorn and theatre candy in our room and went swimming and had the pool and hot tub all to ourselves, as only one family/individual per hour can go.  So the kids loved that!  Sydnie cracked us all up when she said about the hot tub "oooh ooh ooh!  This is steaming my panties!"  Silly gal!

Friday, we woke up leisurely, got our breakfast to go and ate in our room, cleaned up, then we got ready to go to the Hot Springs State Park.  First we drove around, seeing the bison and cool rock formations.  We then went to the Star Plunge.  They had an indoor and outdoor warm pool and then a hot tub outside and inside, and a high dive and a couple of slides.  It was a fun little spot!  A little stinky from the sulfur, but super good time, nonetheless. And there were no more than probably 15 other people there while we were there, so that was nice.  As connoisseurs of hot springs, we think this is one of our favorites we've been to.  Then we showered up and headed to lunch at One Eyed Buffalo, which was pretty good.  After that, we headed back to the park to walk across the bridge and explore the surroundings.  Pretty cool stuff!  We learned about the history of the area, and how the Natives and others used the hot springs. We played on the playground, fed the Koi fish in the pond, and then we had to pack up and go. It was such a nice day, almost 70 degrees, which is nice for WY! We were hoping to go to the WY Dinosaur Center but ran out of time.  Next time, if we get to go again!

Saturday, we woke up to about 3 inches of snow.  The kids were so excited!  Sydnie thought it was Christmas because it began snowing.  They immediately put on their snow clothes and went out to play.  They had a snow ball fight, made a snowman, crunched, ate icicles.  Emma and Cal didn't go play but enjoyed the hot chocolate and toast.  Emma and I went to a baby shower we helped put on for a gal from our Branch.  Then we went to Billings for scheduled hair cut, shopping run, out to dinner at Old Chicagos Pizza and then we went to find some "haunted" places located in Billings from this book we were reading in the car.  The kids thought that was pretty cool and were all ears and fears as I read the accounts out loud. We didn't spot anything, but had a fun time joking around about it.

Sunday, more snow, it's been winter like around here! We've had the best fall and here's the end of it.  We had our Stake conference (called a "devotional" this year).  It was so good!  Our stake president President Ludwig shared 4 principles of peace. He said to experience peace in our lives, we need to 1 - Keep the Sabbath day holy. 2 - Be optimistic. 3 - Look to the light the scriptures, prayer, and words of the modern prophets. 4 - Strengthen your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. From Gospel topics https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/peace?lang=eng : "Even when the world is in turmoil all around us, we can receive the blessing of inner peace. This blessing will continue with us as we stay true to our testimony of the gospel and as we remember that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us and watch over us...As we remember the Savior and follow Him, we truly can be of good cheer. We can experience real, enduring peace at all times. We can find hope in the Savior’s first words to His disciples after His Resurrection: 'Peace be unto you' (John 20:19)." Then we played, did Come, Follow Me and Singing Time together, had dinner, did our family video chats, and went to bed.  It was a nice break!  Now back to reality.
