Though many usual events were cancelled across the country this summer, this 4th of July didn't disappoint! We started the weekend off by heading camping to Spring Creek campground in Big Timber on Friday. Packing and getting everything ready is always a hassle, but it is always worth it. We camped right along the beautiful Boulder River. The camp ground was a nice one! We had a nice surprise when we ran into all the Anderbergs from Scobey - Kris & Sherie and most of their kids and grand kids! They were camping right next to us. The kids had a blast playing together and we loved catching up. It was sweet! We set up camp, explored a bit, did some wildlife spotting (found a bald eagle even!), relaxed in the hammock and camp chairs, found a bunch of painted rocks, played at the playground on the swings and tetherball, built a fire, ran away from the rain, tried to roast hot dogs in the rain, ate chili dogs, chips, carrots & celery and grapes for dinner, roasted marshmallows (the kids got some Sour Patch ones they were excited to try and loved those), ran for cover in our car when it rained really hard, talked to the Anderbergs, then went and played card games in our tent. We fell asleep pretty quick, except for Emma who was up a lot. We woke up early on Independence Day with the sun and the birds and tried to read and play quietly in the tent. Then we went and ate some breakfast outside which was red, white and blueberry muffins and chocolate milk. We went fishing in their trout ponds after that. We keep saying we need to renew our fishing licences and this confirms that. The kids loved it! The kids played with the Anderbergs some more, and we talked a bit more, and then we cleaned up and checked out of our camp site. We went on a drive to Natural Bridge then and hiked around it. Sydnie threw her hands up and said "This is going to be amazing!" It was a beautiful spot and water fall! Emma found about 10 different types of wildflowers that she collected to press. We watched the rock climbers and rapellers. Then we went back to the town of Big Timber and ate lunch at the Thirsty Turtle, which was excellent! Our last stop for our camping trip was the Graycliff Prarie Dog State Park. It was so fun to watch those little critters, they are adorable! It was a fun little close weekend trip together!
After we got home, we cleaned up a bit and got ready for a BBQ with friends. The Wilhelms came over and we grilled on Dave's next new Rec Tec Bullseye grill! We made some burgers and chicken sandwiches. Yum! Along with patriotic fruit - star watermelon and blueberries, chips, a red, white and blue layered drink that ended up not keeping the layers and turning brown (that was a fail, lol!), and some patriotic cupcakes. It was so fun getting together with them, they're a great family! Then we went to Laurel for fireworks. We sat on the church grass across from the park. We lit off a few smaller fireworks, and popped some snap pops and played with sparklers. Their regular firework show was going to be cancelled by the city with the economy and current situation, but the fire fighters said they'd do fireworks and pay for them out of pocket and light them from an undisclosed location to stay home or social distance to watch. They also encouraged the community to light their own. From the time we arrived around 9:45 until we left at 11:15, fireworks were going on all over! It was quite the show and the firefighters and community showed up! Not to mention mother nature's show...there was a giant buck moon lunar eclipse. It was overcast over where the moon was, so part of the time we couldn't see it but it looked incredible! It was a amazing finish to an amazing day spending time in the land we love with the people we love.
