Started playing the saxophone this year for band and is loving it! Started singing after school with his fedora with a buddy asking for money.  They got food and loose change.  Little panhandlers!

Favorite home/school lunch: Been pretty picky in her eating lately and eats the veggies and fruit but not main dish.  She loves getting orange skittles, M&Ms, marshmallows or stickers for going potty.  And she likes making messes with whatever she eats!

Brrrrrring! School's In!

The kids had a great first day of school!  We started out with baked french toast, which is a favorite around here.  I packed lunches and added notes in them, of course.  We took some pictures of the kids on the front porch as we do each year.  Then I sent them off.  They usually walk or ride bikes and love it.  They were all pretty excited underneath it all.  ;)  Emma is getting a little resistant of public school, but I think it's good for her at least for now.  I had a few quiet moments to myself and then Sydnie woke up and kept going to the windows and asking "Where'd the kids go?"  It was sweet.  We sure miss them!  We enjoyed the day together, we went to the Kid's Club to get my preschool classroom set up.  Sydnie technically had her first day of school too, as she goes to the Kid's Club 2 year old group while I work.  It rocked her world and she kept saying "I scared" and "I don't like friends".  Sweet gal, she will get it.  That day I was there the whole time they were at school.  When they got home they were all smiling. All their teachers loved their gifts we gave them at the open house.  They all have great teachers.  Coverton is in Mrs. Staudingers class, Lucy in Mrs. Ralph's class, and Callahan is in Mr. Kurts' class.  Emma says "school is soooOOo boring!" as she slumps over in a chair.  Typical teenager.  She really likes it though and smiles and tells me all about her classmates and stories.  Cal loved being back and loves his teacher and some good buddies in his class.  He also started learning how to play the saxophone and loves it!  Lucy has the sweetest teacher and is making new friends as most of her best friends are in the other class.   She did get grounded as she went to a friends house without checking with me and without her friend checking with her mom first.  Bummer!   Cov liked it, especially the fact that their recess takes place at the city park since the school is under construction.  The kids got to write their names on some of the wood framing so they thought that was cool.   We had a nice chicken cordon bleu dinner and talked all about the excitement of the first day. I still get excited for them just like I got excited when I was going to school!  I miss them, but it is so exciting to learn and grow and be back at school.  I had a boat load of papers to look over and read and sign.  Phew!  When Jazzy got on Cal's folder and made a funny face, I thought that she was looking like I felt. Glad to get back to the routine of school! We sure love summer, but are glad school in. It will be an awesome year!

The kids aren't the only one who school is in for.  I started teaching school at the Kid's Club preschool a week after the kids started school.  I wasn't seeking any jobs but many people told the director when they started their search they thought I'd be good.  So they came after me and I considered it and thought I would apply.  Well they had several applicants but I was chosen.  I have always wanted to do this and now here it is.  It just felt right! It is perfect because Sydnie gets to go to the day care and get some socialization while I teach 3 times a week for 3 hours while the other kids are at school.  I have a great team, Gloria and Carol, who are my assistants and Shannon, the director and other staff are so wonderful!  We have 16 kids in our class, they will be a fun class.  Such great kiddos!  We had a blast decorating, we got some new furniture and purged and organized and got it looking great!  I decided to go with a star theme this year and so of course me being me I coordinate everything with stars.  It will be a great year and a learning experience!

Summer's Gone

The last day of summer, we went to the Laurel Pond to have a picnic, do some hand fishing (forgot our poles, so the kids used their bug nets and holders and some bags from the car to try to catch some, played at the park, walked around a bit, then went to get ice cream.  Then we had a few things to do at home and then it was off to the open house.  I can't believe summer is over already!  But the kids seem to have great teachers and it got them a little more excited about school.  They've been talking home school lately, and I said we will think about it but to give it another year and as I prayed about it and took it to the temple, I felt at peace about sending them off.  They say it's hard to be some of the only members of our church at school and that they don't like this or that or the people and the kids' swearing and unsavory topics they speak about.  It will all work out!  We had our crazy dinner and this year, the kids decided to let everyone draw for the main dish, vegetable, fruit, side, dessert and drink.  It was pretty yummy, and didn't clash too bad!  ;)  Then we had our fun fight and it was a toilet paper fight this year.  Lucy and Cov hid them and once we found our mega roll, we cold fight with it.  We stuffed it down each others shirts, threw it at each other, did some toilet paper dancing, became TP ninjas, threw the rolls at each other, buried each other in it, made piles in to jump in and more.  Our fights are always hilarious and always a fun way to end the summer and get ready for the school year!  I was joking with the kids that we did a TP fight to remind them not to flush away their futures so to work hard in school.  Then we got a little more serious and had our scripture study and everyone got Priesthood blessings from Daddy to start off the school year.   This is always one of my favorite times and as Dave gave the blessings through revelation, it hit me tonight that he kept saying "we bless you..." "we..."  It's not Dave talking. It is the Lord through Dave and He knows them best of all.  He wants to bless them more than I can even imagine.  We need to put our trust in Him and everything will work out.  It's been a great summer that went down the john (couldn't help myself) and it's going to be a great school year now too!!
