I Speak Fluent Blarney

We had a fun St. Patrick's Day celebration this year.  The made a leprechaun trap but decided instead of just trying to trap it, they wanted to do something fun for it instead.  Lucy wrote a note that said "Hello Leprachaun!  I thought 'Why should we try to trap leprachauns?'  So we made a zoo for you to enjoy instead.  Enjoy!  -Lucy Happy St. Patty's Day!  P.S. I made a safe for you.  A safe not one where you can go to be safe one where you can put coins into.  P.P.S. You can eat snacks."  They decided to make a zoo for it.  Everyone made little 3D paper animals to put inside with displays of different animals.  They even made a snack bar table complete with Lucky Charms and mini cotton candy.  Cute and creative!  Cov decided this wasn't enough, and he made his own trap with a big box.  He worked hard on it and had some great ideas.  The next morning, Cov saw the leprechaun had used necklaces to try to climb up as ropes on his trap, but got away and left some buttons for everyone.  By the Zoo, the leprechaun left a note that said "Some say we're sweet, others say we're sour...thanks for being sweet to me this year so I don't have to be sour, kids!  You were so kind, I left behind some treats and buttons for you and want to say Happy St. Paddy's Day, too! -Lucky the Leprechaun".  They were so excited!!  The Leprechaun came.  He's so sneaky, but maybe next year we'll catch him!

My class had a fun party, they especially loved the scavenger hunt the Leprechaun sent us on.  There was gold glitter all over the classroom! The hats we made turned out super cute!  Sydnie had a fun party too with clues all over.  She kept telling everyone that he left a note that said "You didn't catch me!" and was kind of bummed, but still had a good time.  Cov did a little STEM science project in his class and he and his partner got second place!

We started things off with breakfast burritos with corned beef in them from Big Fat Lunchbox.  Too much for me, but everyone else loved it.  We didn't have school in person, but our distance learning, so we did homework, practicing, and playing outside with neighbors during the day.  Lucy went to Irish dance and got some surprises from her dance friends and her teacher.  The evening of St. Patrick's Day, we had our next door neighbor, Pam Scott over for dinner. Jeff, her husband was out of town, so we invited her and she is such a loving, kind lady.  Our kids just love her!  She wanted to hear everyone play piano for her, so they did.  Then we had our dinner.  Green salad, watergate fruit salad, Irish soda bread, and Irish beef stew.  Emma made some green drink concoctions.  For dessert, we had mint brownies with ganache frosting.  Pam also brought some chocolate mangoes and some pretty daffodils over to us. We had a fun night with her.  We read some St. Patrick's day books, researched a little information about St. Patrick, made up our own limericks, and played a game where we had to get Lucky Charms cereal from one side of a pop bottle taped to another in the fastest time.  The kids really got into that one!

Here are our limericks -

Dad - Once there was a turd in a bucket.  It came from a munk named Muppet.  It gave off a funk that was worse than a skunk.  Don't mess with a munk or else you'll get skunked!

Mom - I once met a leprechaun from Timbuktu.  Every day she wore feathers from a cockatoo.  But when she ran out, she shouted out "Get me more feathers or else I will pout!  That strange leprechaun from Timbuktu threw her shoe!"

Emma - Blob; hobblebobble. Me went to the sewer for a swim; Walked down the road.  The slimine he would melt.  Hobblebobble Blobbelville.

Cal - I once met a Donald Trump from Orangeville.  Every day he acted grumpy.  But when ever he got happy his hair will be blue not yellow. That strange Donald Trump in Orangeville.

Lucy - I once was a girl and yelled "Time to do Irish dance!"  I started to do tapping and rallies.  Then I shooed "You"!

Cov - There once was a fart called the Great Fart.  Who always farted on his bed.  So he farted on his room.  That fart from Dairyaire.

So poetic.  ;)  I gave everyone notes telling them why I'm lucky to have them.  I also got thinking about all of our Irish ancestors.  Dave's Grandma Lilly is half Irish, her mother, Sarah Campbell Simpson is full Irish and her parents and predecessors of course.  Then my fourth great Grandma and Grandpa are Annie S. Dawson and William Donaldson, who are Irish. They were great examples of perseverance and grit.

There's nothing blarney about St. Patrick's day!  We enjoy this holiday!
