The winter started out very mild with nice temperatures and hardly any snow. We went to the park several times to play tennis and go to the playground. We had some verrrry chilly weeks in February. About a week and a half in February where the temperatures didn't exceed 0. And with wind chill taken into account, low temps in the -30's. Yikes! We hibernated basically when at home, but life doesn't stop here when it gets cold so it was business as usual.
Sydnie started Primary...she's a Sunbeam and mostly loves it! We started classes back up at Church again so that's been way nice. We also participated in the first Friend 2 Friend event for kids where we heard from Church leaders, listened to uplifting music, watched fun videos from Primary friends around the world, and did some art together. We love Primary!
We were able to get out and go sledding several times. Sometimes at the sledding hill and other times at the McCallys/Ames place.
Emma started playing trumpet with the Pep Band. So we went to lots of the basketball games. The band sounds really great for their size! They have some fun songs they are playing. And both the boys and girls teams are doing really well this season. We have fun cheering on the band...oh yeah, and the basketball teams. The boys love doing the pop shots at half time, where kids can pay a dollar and if they make a shot, they get a big bottle of soda pop. Good to be back to events together!
We did some fancy snowflake making to decorate our windows. The kids found some awesome patterns and Dave and I made some too.
The kids started up with Stillwater Wrestling Club again. Cov and Cal are wrestling and Emma is volunteering and helping the little beginners. Covey wasn't sure if he'd like it or not, but ended up saying it is "epic"! They've been practicing hard! They had the Road Kill tournament here in our town at the end of February, which was great because not very many were doing tournaments this year with Covid. This was right after the mask requirement was lifted, and it was so nice to have an event that felt normal for once in the past year. The boys both wrestled, this was Cov's first meet and Cal's third (he participated in a couple last year). They did awesome! Cal won one of three matches but ended up getting 4th place and medaling. More than that though, I was proud of his excellent sportsmanship. He would help his opponents up, make sure he complimented them sincerely, and even side hugged some in addition to handshakes. He listened well to his coaches and was humble in his approach. Covey rocked it! He won all of his matches until the finals and ended up getting second place. He seems to be a natural little mat burner! He told me he felt sorry especially for the first person he wrestled against and he wanted to hug them because he felt bad they lost. His last match was tough and you could tell the boy had been wrestling since he was tiny, and he was held in a head lock most of the three rounds. He almost made it to the end without being pinned. He was a fighter, but at the end passed out a bit and the whistle was blown. His neck hurt and had scratch marks all over it. He was crying and we felt so bad for the poor buddy, he came towards me for hugs and comfort, but they motioned him back and so he still went and shook his opponents and coaches hands. He was in pain and crying for a bit, but shook it off and was smiling and having fun ten minutes later. He and his buddies were so sweet, they'd go around with their arms around each other and cheer each other on the mat. Emma helped out at the t-shirt sales table and helped clean up after as well. Proud of my wrestlers! Wrestling was never really my thing and I thought it was kind of a dumb sport, but guess I'm the wrestling mom now and am gaining new and greater appreciation for how tough it is!
Callahan was able to go on his first skiing experience. He went with his buddy Nolan and his family to Red Lodge. Cal really enjoyed it! They said he picked up quickly, and he can't wait to go again!
Lucy had some grading exams for Irish dance. Her teacher, miss Jacqueline Lowe (who is from Ireland) belongs to an Irish dancing federation based in Dublin. Lucy was able to dance as an individual and with her group. Her teacher said she passed with flying colors! They also were quizzed about certain aspects of Irish dance and learned had to learn some gaelic. Lucy was a little nervous but ended up really enjoying it and has been jump-two-threeing around the house even more lately! We did her hair the night before with straws and an hour and a half of time. Yikes! Turned out so cute though and aye, damhsa away!
One of our neighbors cats has been terrorizing our house and place...tearing things apart, sneaking in our garage and house, trying to get us to pet it, following us around on walks, even follows me to Kid's Club, ahh! We try to shoo it away but it just won't go! We thought it's name was Matthew but then learned it was Roscoe. They finally brought him in when he almost got killed by a dog, phew!
One thing this pandemic has helped Dave and I recommit to is date nights. Our Saturday night dates are always fun whether at home or away from home. This past Saturday, we had a Ben and Jerry's blind taste test contest and played Would you Rather. The weekend after we went to the Edgar Bar for dinner. We joked that you know you like in Montana when the best restaurants are bars.
The kids hit the 100th day of school. Cov and Lucy dressed up as old farts and same old, same old for the olders. Cov also got to introduce his invention for their inventors unit. He invented a toothbrush that you push a button and it squeezes the right amount of toothpaste onto the brush for you. Nice idea buddy! Our bathroom sink could really use that.
The kids have been having fun video chatting friends and family and playing around with different filters. They laugh so much when doing these and they just crack me up!
