Totally groovy! Emma is a teenager!

We have a teenager!  😮  Things are staring to get real, and I'm starting to get old!

We started off the day by letting her sleep in (which can go really late some days) and making her favorite breakfast of peach English scones.  Then we worked on her cake a bit.  She pretty much made it all, I assisted.  We made a glass cake that looked kind of like tie-dye.  Then we went over to a neighbors house who was selling some jewelry and accessories and she picked a few things and checked out their baby kittens that were two weeks old.  If nothing else, this made Em's day! They were so cute!  Then we went home and Emma wanted to do a tie dye birthday party.  It was a family birthday this year, so she was stuck with us.  We made tie dye shirts and the kids thought of other things they wanted to tie dye - socks, bags, etc.  They turned out so fun and everyone was loving it.  (I didn't love staying up into the middle of the night rinsing them and washing them all out but that's another story).  We had never made those before, so it was a fun thing to do!  Then we got ready to go to Billings.  We ran a few boring errands first, and then went to the mall.  Emma decided on a whim she wanted to pierce her ears.  So, she got them pierced at Claire's.  She picked out her August birthstone of peridot for her first set of earrings.  She was pretty excited!  It was cute because she was texting Amber and Tayla and Grandma Sue to see if she should do it. They all said they thought that would be fun, so she went with it.  Emma got to pick out the location for dinner and she chose Rio Sabinos and no one was complaining, that place is the best!  She saw some other people at the restaurant get a sombrero placed on their head and be sung to and she sunk down and almost died just watching that happen to them and told us to be sure we didn't tell anyone it was her birthday.  We had some fun conversations and told her all the things we loved about her (Dave said he likes that Emma is so helpful and doesn't complain and works hard, I said I love that she's not afraid to just be herself and be who she is and doesn't care what others think about her, Cal said she was fun, Lucy said she is strong, Covey said she is funny, Sydnie said "Emma helps you"). We drove home and then sang to her, ate cake and ice cream, and then let her open her presents, which of course her main present was getting her ears pierced, but she got some cat puzzles and a slime kit, too.  She played with her new gifts for a little bit, and watched some football with Dad, and then went to bed with sweet dreams.

And now August is over.  It is such a fun month with all our celebrations but kind of glad it's over, I'm tired.  But it was a great way to finish off party month.  Out of all of the teenagers we know, Emma is the best and we are thankful she is our teenager!

A few years ago, Emma started calling everyone in this age category "weirdo teenagers".  We had to remind her that to an extent, all teenagers are weird to some extent and really we all have our own quirks.  We've had to tell the kids maybe we shouldn't call teens weirdos anymore.

Emma is wise beyond her years.  I am always in awe of the maturity she displays.

Very helpful and sweet.  She does so many things without being asked and is great with her siblings.

Gets mad at siblings sometimes for being annoying. Understandable.

Has a rough time going to bed at night and waking up in the morning.  Just started taking some sleep aid medicine, so let's hope it helps!

Self-proclaimed social awkward.  I tell her everyone at that age is socially awkward.

Lately has been asking to do home school.  She doesn't feel she fits in very well because of her values, she doesn't like hearing all the swearing and the things some kids talk about and the gossip and the pettiness.  We told her to hold on another year and see how things go, as we felt and prayed about it and thought that was best. So we will see!

She has been working hard on her Personal Progress for YW so she can earn her YW recognition award.  She has a few months left and is almost done.

Loves reading, cats, fashion designing, giggling, drawing, keeping in touch with her friends as a pen pal or texting, cooking yummy food.
