Children and Youth Program Year One Done

We have finished our first year of the Children and Youth program and it went well!  As a family, we hiked up to Woodbine Falls for our physical goal, put on a Restoration commemoration program for our family for our spiritual goal, built a loft in our garage for the intellectual goal, and invited families over for dinner for our social goal (until Covid hit anyways).  The kids also got their emblems of belonging in the fall and they are pretty cool!  Grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow and stretch!  I know the goals I chose really helped me during this difficult year.

Spiritual: Dave - Daily prayers, Mel - Gratitude journal, Emma - Read the BofM 2 seperate times, Cal - Read the book "Even the Prophet was a Deacon", Lucy - Discover and develop spiritual gifts, and Coverton - Invite a friend to a church or Primary activity.

Physical: Dave - Be active a minimum of 3 times a week, Mel - Go to bed at 11 most nights, Emma - Exercise every day, Cal - Try 2 new sports (wrestling & tackle football), Lucy - Run or walk a mile for every soldier, fireman and police officer in the community, Cov - Learn to cook healthy meals like a chef.

Intellectual: Dave - Read 2 books, Mel - Read the mindful challenge book and do them each day, Emma - Play prodigy and more educational games, Cal - Play chess more, Lucy - learn theFrench language, Coverton - learn to draw better.

Social: Dave - Invite 4 families/friends over this year, Melanie - Call or text a new or old friend each week, Emma - Be more social, Cal - inviting new friends over and praying over who close friends should be, Lucy - love and serve people more, Coverton - to admit when wrong and ask for forgiveness.

So maybe it wasn't perfect and we didn't get all our goals completed every day or exactly how we'd like, but we worked towards it and did our best, and that's all that matters.

Emma and I also go to participate in the My 150 Young Women challenge. "Young women were invited to choose something meaningful they could do relating to the number 150. Using the hashtag #strivetobe, young women have been sharing their personal challenges for the anniversary. Some set personal goals, such as finding 150 names to take to the temple or reading 150 pages of scripture. Others chose goals based on service, such as baking 150 treats for friends and family or sending 150 kind messages. Each challenge is designed to help young women simultaneously celebrate and come closer to Christ."  I wrote 150 cards to others (all branch members, teachers, friends, family members) encouraging them and telling them the things I admire about them.  Emma worked to give out 150 compliments and Lucy even wanted to join in and do 150 acts of service.

We are so thankful for the programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which help us "Come unto Christ and be perfected in Him" (Moroni 10:32).  We are looking forward to another year of learning "in wisdom and stature and in favor with God & man" (Luke 2:52) and becoming just a little bit more of who our Father in Heaven wants us to become.
