Meet Jazzy...the newest member of our family!

We've been promising Emma a cat for quite a while, since her last birthday.  But it seems all the ones we've seen at the shelter or pet stores just don't feel quite right.  We even looked at some in Utah on our recent visit celebrating the holidays, but just didn't feel good about any, which Emma was kind of bummed. Well, on our way back from Utah, we got a call from our good friends the Walkers.  Their aunt/sister had a couple of baby kittens she was taking care of and she wanted to find good homes for them.  So they sent us pictures, and this is the one Emma chose.  Her BFF Beckie is holding her.  Emma was so thrilled!  As were the other kids!  They couldn't wait for them to bring her to us!

When they brought her in there were "awwwwws!" all around and Emma was so excited to be the first to hold her, as this is her cat.  She giggled and couldn't contain her joy, it was very sweet.  The kids brainstormed several different names...Sausage, Moldy, Cloudy...none really fit.  But then Emma was talking to Beckie, her good friend who brought her to us, and she said they called her Jazzy, but we could name her whatever we wanted.  Emma lit up!  Jazzy!  That fits her so well, Emma thought.  And it really does!

She's about 6 weeks old, and she's very cute!  She's an easy going, curious, playful kitten, and she's doing great!  She loves snuggling with Dave and Emma, playing with toys and the kids, hunting at nights, eating (and pooping...she does that a lot too though she's great about using the litter box and we've only had a couple of accidents), and hiding from Covey.

Jazzy has been so good for the kids, therapeutic really.  I've put this off for so long because my family was never really a pet family, and even Dave loves animals, but resisted because we have enough going on and the messes and whatever.  But sometimes what your family wants is more important than what you want.  I'm so glad we did it.  When the kids were sick, she laid with them and helped them feel better.  They've learned how to think of something else more than themselves better (making sure she's not lonely, has enough food and water, is clean, entertained, etc.)  As Grandma Sue said to her right before we left, "You don't find your cat, your cat finds you".  That was totally the case for Emma and Jazzy!
