A Special General Conference

Each year, twice a year, General Conference is special. But this year seemed extra special. I always long for GC now and while we are listening to and watching all those glorious hours, I feel such a special peace, strength, assurance, and love. We started things out with a FHE Emma put on the week of Conference. She asked us what we want to learn, what questions we have, and a goal related to Conference we wanted to make. It was good to get in that mindset before for us all. Saturday morning, we listened in the car on the way to Utah. I always like doing that, because there are only so many distractions, we are all in one place, and it is usually quiet. I took notes on my notecards and the kids listened pretty well. We took a break in between and made a Costco run. Then we listened to the afternoon session with the Ryerses. After that, we looked at Grandma's awesome Halloween decorations, Sydnie played in the sand, and some of us went shopping to get things for our Halloween costumes. We printed out some fall themed pictures of the apostles and prophets in some houses and each time they heard them speak, they colored them in. We had Chinese food for dinner and then watched the evening session again with everyone. We had a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa Ryerses and then were up in the morning to make cinnamon rolls for everyone. Then we went to the Stoddard Grandparents for a brunch which was a yummy quiche, ham fritters, orange rolls, monkey bread, fruit, and all types of drinks. We watched the morning session with them and Mark, Mayela and Amber. It was even better than the yummy food we ate! Mayela got a giant poster for us all to color, which kept us occupied and listening well. For the afternoon, Dave and I were lucky enough to get tickets and we took Cal and Lucy. Emma has been before and Cov is barely old enough and Sydnie not old enough at all, so we decided on those two. It was such a special experience to be there! We walked around before and checked out the beautiful and inspiring art, went out on the deck (which the Sister missionaries said we could but then later we were told by another usher we weren't supposed to be out there, oops!), and walked around temple square. To stand when the prophet came in, see the apostles in person, and hear the mouthpieces of the Lord, it was so special! I get chills being there, hearing the Tabernacle Choir and General Authorities testify of Christ. The Gospel is true and how blessed we are to have the Lord's word and will to help us navigate this difficult world. I am grateful for General Conference that keeps me going. I know the Church is true and the Prophet speaks for Jesus Christ. I am thankful for this power that comes into my life as I learn of Him.

My impressions from Conference and overall themes -

Keep my life and home centered in Jesus Christ.

Teach the children how obeying the commandments and keeping covenants is like innoculating them from the world.

Share the Gospel often.

Life is hard but we can do it!

Get to the temple as often as you can.

The Savior's coming is not too far off.
