Dave turned 40 and we celebrated big...you only turn 40 once, right? The weekend before his birthday, we had a little surprise birthday in Utah with family and a few friends (unfortunately some of the friends who were going to come got sick or had other things come up). We had it at Millcreek park. Randy got Dave out of the house by taking him to Home Depot with him. We all went and set up the decorations and got the food set out. It was super windy, it seems like we bring the wind down with us more often than not. Dave was surprised and had a lot of fun! We had pizza, fruits and veggies, homemade root beer and other drinks, chips and dip and lemon blueberry cupcakes and Costco chocolate cake for dessert. We enjoyed visiting, the kids had fun playing and we caught up. The Yangs, our old friends from when we lived in South Ogden, were the only ones to be able to make it that weren't family so it was super great to see them. I asked friends and family who couldn't make it to send cards in the mail, and he got quite a few!
On his real birthday, Dave got to the office to find it all decorated. The kids helped me the night before and we put balloons and decorations all over, wrote mesages on the wall, and took a bunch of his favorite treats (peanut butter bars and chocolate drop cookies) with napkins. His assistant Tori sent out an e-mail to everyone telling them to stop by and wish him a happy birthday and get a treat. Everyone loved the treats and quite a few came in with well wishes and visiting with Dave (when he wasn't in meetings). In their admin meeting, on the "old news" portion, co-worker Scott brought up that Dave was now old news.
Dave had a busy work day, and then his EMT class right after work. So we weren't able to see him until after 9. We lit the candles, sang our Ryerse happy birthday song extra loud, and we ate that and ice cream and talked about everyones day. Then he opened his presents. We decided to go in on a boat in our family, so that's his big birthday present. We got him a boat multi-tool and a Captain hat. He enjoyed looking through the cards that were sent, including some friends from far away. The kids stayed up way too late, but they had to see him on his birthday, right? Dave didn't think this birthday was so rough (25 on the other hand, that was a hard one for him) and rather liked it. Oh Dave, you make 40 fabulous! Here's to another 40, and another! We love you so much!
