An Easter to Remember

Easter weekend was one to remember this year!

Before Easter, we did a few crafts, including some egg carton crafts. We highlighted what happened during Christ's last week and with the ancient Israelites in connection with this time frame and the Passover. We made little treats for those we minister to and our family members. We watched the 10 Commandment movie by Cecile B. DeMille over the course of several nights.

The Saturday before Easter, we started things off early at Grandma Carol and Grandpa Chuck's Legacy House for an egg hunt and breakfast. It was so great to see them, the kids got tons of candy, and we even got a picture with the Easter Bunny. Sydnie wasn't very thrilled with the Bunny, and Dave missed the picture somehow (which I didn't realize until much later).  After that, we got the to 2022 Tabernacle tour. A youth group last summer from California built a life size tabernacle like the ancient Israelites took around with them in the wilderness to worship in. It is going around all over right now so people can see what it was like. We learned about it, got to tour it, see displays about temples now and then. It was fascinating. There is so much symbolism there. Probably the neatest thing I learned was that when they would take the blood from the sacrificial animals, they would dab a bit on their ear to remind them to hear the word of the Lord, some on their hands to remind them to do the will of the Lord, and some on their feet to remind them to walk in the ways of the Lord. The kids really liked it and were reverent too.  Then we headed to the Ryerses to dye eggs. The hits of the day were Dave's new toy he got, a striped egg spinning decorating machine and that we did some marbled eggs with Cool Whip and food coloring. Dave started feeling really sick this day so mostly slept Saturday. Then we went over to the Stoddards, where Amy, Kolby & I went to the Jordan River temple to do an endowment session and the kids stayed and played with Grandma and Grandpa and made marshmallow eggs. It was so interesting comparing the temples of now with the tabernacle of old. It was enlightening for me to compare the holy temple now to the tabernacle of old. I am grateful for sacred spaces that help me come to know my Savior better and want to better serve Him!It is so nice to have temples back at full capacity and be able to get in easier now. It was a very spiritually boosting afternoon. After we were done, we had an indoor picnic, because it had been raining on and off, with R&R barbeque and then had an egg hunt. Emma, Cal and Lucy wanted to hide eggs. They are getting so old and had a great time doing this. Then Covey, Sydnie, Boji and Kanon went looking for them. It was a blast!  Then we headed back to the Ryerses for our glow in the dark egg hunt that Grandma Sue started a couple of years ago. All of the kids got a flashlight and bucket and went to town looking for their dozen eggs. Grandpa Dan said he just found one from last year a few weeks before and it was smelly and rotton. 3 egg hunts in one day, phew! Really love spending time with all these peeps. Some of the family went to go see Secrets of Dumbledore that night while the youngers went to sleep. They really liked it.

Sunday morning, we woke to find the Easter bunny had come. Before we could check out the goods, we all discussed our favorite names of Christ and why. Dave's was the Great Physician, Melanie's was Redeemer, Emma's was the Bright and Morning Star, Cal's was the Living Water, Lucy's was Savior, Cov's was Good Shepherd, Sydnie's was Jesus, and Grandpa Dan came in and told us his favorite is Jesus Christ.  We are so thankful for Him who means so much and makes all things possible! We saw what the Easter Bunny brought, the kids were pleased. Then we made resurrection rolls and eggs for breakfast and got ready for church. We went to church at the Meadows Branch where Grandma and Grandpa serve. Sydnie had a huge power struggle which turned into a meltdown so she and I missed lots of the meeting, but when we did get in, they had a great musical number (Cal accidentally started clapping after it, lol) and a couple of speakers who testified of Christ. After church, we took some pictures. I skipped out on them, since Dave was really sick, so I just took pictures of the kids. We even had to do a bunny face shot because these kiddos have been doing that lots lately. I didn't make dresses this year, as I knew things would be crazy with just having had moved and something had to go. So that was the thing to go. I missed doing this but am glad I said no and will look forward to doing them next year. But Sydnie really wanted bunny dresses and so we got some and Emma picked out hers. We played in the backyard, had an Easter lunch with my parents, and then got ready to go home. It wasn't a perfect day between sickness, and high emotions, and a little bickering, but I know whatever our challenges, Christ helps us rise. He succors us and helps us overcome. Here's a little Haiku poem I wrote Easter morning that sums up my feelings this year:

What we need Christ gives

He is the one, only way

My Redeemer lives!
