A Weekend with Grandma & Grandpa Ryerse

We had Grandma Sue & Grandpa Dan come visit us during July.  The kids were so excited and waited by the doors and windows all Friday afternoon.  They made a cute sign to welcome them.  They came in and were showered with hugs and kisses, then we had homemade grilled pizza and grilled peach cobbler for dinner.  After that, we played around and watched "Red Sonja" for our movie night with popcorn.

We put the kids and ourselves to bed next.  Saturday, we woke up and went downtown to the Summerfest activities.  We went to the free pancake breakfast, walked around the booths and participated in the different activites there.  A few of the kids got their faces painted - Lucy wanted to be a butterfly and Cal a tiger.  Then, Lucy wanted to participate in the Kiddy Commode Races.  She had to move herself on a little cart with two plungers (we ended up helping a bit, which was a-ok by organizers).  She had to do lots of little obstacles around cones, make baskets with toilet paper, etc.  She did a good job!  The other kids were too scared to try.  She got a golden toilet trophy, which she was so proud of.  Ha ha!  Then, we cheered on the teams at the Outhouse races.  The hospital entered one this year, they did great!  It looked really good and they did well for their first time ever.  Of course, it came down to the Police and Fire Department, as it usually does.  The FD ended up taking the prize this year.  We got to see lots of friends, and we were thrilled the Schaef's were here, since Toby was doing the races.  We've missed them since they've moved.  They're only 90 minutes away, but we still don't see them much anymore.  The kids jumped in the bouncy house, got to pick out some goodies, watched the watermelon eating contest, did the ping pong ball drop.  Cal really wanted to do the dunking booth, where the high school cheerleaders were raising money.  So we let him, and he hit the target each of his three tries!  They were all impressed.  He thought it was hilarious!  We went to Buck's for lunch, and Dave's parents were fans.  Toby & Shelly were there too, but made it in before us and were so sweet to pay for our check.  How nice are they?!  We love them!

That afternoon, I stayed home with the kids while they all (except Emma) napped.  Dan, Sue, and Dave went to the Old Penn.  They thought it was so fascinating and had a great tour guide.  We had some cashew chicken and fruit for dinner.  Then we just played out in the backyard and talked that night.

Sunday, we had some breakfast, chatted, played some board games together.  Then we went to church.  That day, I did a special musical number, a piano duet of "My Heavenly Father Loves Me" with my friend Trista.  Sue came to Primary, since Covey was having a rough time going to nursery, she brought him in during the last hour.  It was fun having her in there.  After church, we made them some grub for the ride home then said our good byes.  The weekend went by way too fast, but we all had so much fun!  I'm so glad we have such awesome family on both sides.  We are so blessed!  We love you, Grandma & Grandpa!  Come again soon!
