From 10 Years to Eternity!

We were able to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on August 10 of this year!  It's hard to believe it's been that long, yet it feels like I've known Dave my whole life.  I was just doing some thinking and realized that I've known Dave for a third of my life.  That's pretty significant!

Our anniversary was a Monday.  We woke up snuggling.  Our kids got pumped up by watching our wedding video (never gets old and they're always glued!).

The rest of the day was a normal day, Dave had work and we had responsibilities at home.  The kids and I made a giant yellow heart sugar cookie. We had a special dinner with chicken cordon bleu bake, rice, fruit salad, green salad, and peas.  We decorated a little, used our nice dishes, and had fun celebrating with the family.

The kids helped me that day get Dave's gift put all together.  The traditional gift for 10 years is tin.  I couldn't really find anything except for cheesy tin cuff links, or a tin keychain, stuff Dave wouldn't really like.  So I filled 10 tin cans with stuff he would like and tied it into "tin" things I love about you.  On each can, I wrote a little poem about a reason why I love him.  And I made a card, of course.  He is working on one gift, but the other thing he got me was a sweet picture frame which celebrates our 10 years together.  And it also has a scripture on it.  "Give honor to marriage...give a life of love."  I love that!

It was a nice day and fun looking back on where we started, where we've been, where we are now, and where we are going.

The following weekend, we made a little getaway alone to Park City.  It was so wonderful!  We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria, and I would recommend it to anyone!  As we arrived, we were greeted by chocolate covered strawberries and a card wishing us a happy 10th anniversary (Dave must have arranged that).  It was a beautiful hotel, we really enjoyed it.  Our room was fun.  There were two bathrooms, with two showers, a jetted tub, and even had a TV in the one (which we never used but thought was pretty cool).  First, we went walking to explore the hotel.

We then went to dinner at the Powder, the hotel restaurant.  We were able to sit outside, which was fun.  We had crispy pork belly for starts, which I'm not a huge meat person, but Dave really liked it.  It was like thick bacon.  My throat was sore for a couple of days before this and during our weekend, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I probably normally would, but it was still really good.  Then we had their four course meal - we started out with heirloom tomato salads, then we had lime sherbet, for the main dish, I got yummy cod and Dave got Waygu bavette steak.  Finally, for dessert, we got cheesecake, which was so creamy and delicious!  It was nice to sit down and be waited on instead of waiting on everyone else, and not be the last one finished with dinner.  ;)  And, the conversation was great too.  Mostly just talk of our lives right now, where we are headed, what we're doing.  And we thought it was cool the marigolds right by us were orange and yellow, both our favorite colors.

We ran into some college friends there too, who were there alone, kid-less like us for a night.  That was fun to see them.  After dinner, we took a walk around our hotel and surrounding areas.  Park City is so beautiful and we watched the sun go down.  Then we went back to the hotel for s'mores around their fire pit.  That was appropriate, since our anniversary just so happens to fall on S'mores Day, but we never knew it until this year when I was writing wacky holidays on our calendar to celebrate, and that one popped up.  We talked to some other couples and people around the camp fire and enjoyed some more.

We then went back to our room, and when we walked in, we noticed our bed had been decorated with rose petals.  How fun was that?!  We just relaxed on the couch and watched a movie, Gravity.  It was good, and fun to watch a movie without distractions and questions, and one that's a little more for adults since most of our Friday night movies are kid's shows.

Then we enjoyed our soft, good-smelling bed the rest of the night.  ;)  It was a relaxing night and neither of us woke once.  Though I woke up at 6, earlier than I've been waking up this summer most days.  And I couldn't get back to sleep.  I hate that!  But I read, so it was okay!  :)

When Dave woke up, we went to go swimming.  We were pretty much the only ones in the nice pool and two hot tubs.  A few came and went, but we had it to ourselves for the most part.  We raced, floated, and soaked in the hot tubs.  Then we soaked out in the morning sun for a bit and chatted.  Ahhh...such a nice break for sure!

We then went and showered, got ready, and reluctantly checked out.  We went to Kneader's for breakfast, which is always nom nom nom.  Then we went to the USU Swaner Eco Center.  It was a nice facility and we enjoyed walking around on the paths and going up to the look out tower.  The Half Marathon was going on that morning, so there was a concert aftewards and we checked that out for a while.   Then, we drove up the Main Street then to the mountains by Park City to see the pretty views.  After that, we went to the ski jump practice facility where we sat and watched many skiiers practice their jumps and splash in the water.  They also have a new, giant climbing wall that was fun to watch.  Next, we went to the Tanger Outlet mall, since you can't go to Park City without going there, right?  We got a few things and stayed for a couple of hours.

We drove to Salt Lake after that to use a certificate we had for Rodizio's Grill.  We walked around Trolly Square first though, since it had been quite a while since we'd been there.  The dinner was SO good, my throat was feeling a little better, and we had some good eats and tasty treats.  Then we picked up a few things we needed at Costco before picking the kids up.

The kids had a great time with Grandma Di & Grandpa Scott, who kept them very busy and said they were really good.  Mark & Mayela took them for part of the day Saturday, and they had a blast at the splash pad and doing all kinds of activities.  They were excited to see us though, if I do say so myself, and excited about the prizes we got them.

It was SUCH a relaxing, rejuvenating weekend with my love.  He is so amazing!  I laugh to think back at first I had no feelings for him "that way", totally just thought of us as friends.  But the more I hung out with him, and the more I got to know him, the more amazing and attractive he became to me.  And the trend continues that way.  The more situations I see him in - handling stress well, combating temptation, helping around the house, playing and loving the kids, leading our home with the Priesthood, etc. - the more attractive and amazing he continues to become.  I love him SO much, my heart is full!  Happy anniversary, to my one and only Dave!  XOXO  Here's to 10 years...to forever!
