A social distanced St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Paddy's day!  This year we had no choice but to be stuck inside with the Corona virus Covid-19 quarantine going on.  Everyone is supposed to stay inside and away from everyone else for two weeks.  At least we kept busy!  We enjoyed making Leprechaun traps the day before.  Cal made one with a trap door and a Lego rainbow on top.  Lucy made one out of a peanut container and added a bed complete with a felt potato pillow and made a green trail towards her trap.  Cov made a box one with a chute in it and made a ramp up towards his sticker covered green box that said "Fun Place" on the outside. They had a sleepover and were having a hard time sleeping because they were so excited about them!  They had no luck catching the leprechaun but woke up to a mess in Cov's room, Lucky Charms dumped on the counter, green water and bubbles in the sink with a green shaver, Lucy's bed was messed up a little, there was a little ladder and green lasso that tricky guy used.  But, no leprechaun but the kids had a fun hunt and kept thinking it might still be in our house during the day and went looking for it.  They did get some green candy and mini toilet paper rolls! Good as gold these days, with toilet shortages every where due to the COVID-19 outbreak!  The kids figured that out pretty quick and had a good laugh. 

We made shamrock pancakes and did our regular morning routine (trying to stay on a routine!).  The kids played a lot and we read.  We've never learned about St. Patrick much, but got a book on the library about Ireland and read lots about him in there.  He was a faith filled man who changed a country and the world because of his love of Christ and others.  I love this saying that was attributed to him:

"Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger." 

We also enjoyed seeing pictures of famous Irish landmarks and pictures of the countrysides and people from Ireland.  Reading does take us to new places!  We did a pastel shamrock craft in the afternoon, as well as played outside, had some screen time, did some whining and fighting (ugh), cleaned up and made dinner.  We had the Elders over for dinner, which was a treat!  We made pastry covered meat loaf, green garlic mashed potatoes, steamed cabbage, Irish jello cups, and had some lemon cream cheese rainbow cupcakes for dessert.  All of the kids helped make something and they all helped clean really well.  Emma was our cake boss and did the cupcakes mostly on her own.  Cov said she has to go to the show Nailed it! for sure.  She also made a little cake of a pot of gold by herself with the extra mixed colored frosting.  It was tasty! Em was not wearing green on her clothes, but her earrings were green so that counted, she said.  We talked to the Elders a lot and gave them updates on all going on in the world right now.  They are only supposed to visit the members now, not knock doors.  We had a message and watched the "Hear Him" video President Nelson put out recently and discussed how we hear Him.  We were glad they came and they were glad to get some time outside the apartment!  After they left, we played a few games.  We enjoyed Zingo on the green side, one all the kids can play, even Sydnie without destroying it.  Then Emma got a few games together with Lucky Charms and one with rainbow fruit leather.  We got on Family Search and did the Picture My Heritage activity and checked out the map of where our ancestors came from and who they were.  Lots of Irish blood on both sides of the family!  Maybe that's why we love St. Patrick's Day so.  I didn't get many pictures, but a few at least.  Lucky to be who we are, with who we have and to have Christ at the head!
