Our Day at the Zoo - When Animals Behave Badly

As we do each year, we had Ryerse girls and kids day at the Zoo on a hot day in July!  It was fun like always!

Lucy loved watching all of the animals and enjoyed pointing to them all.  She got a kick out of it all!

The Rocky Shores exhibit was really cool.  The kids loved seeing the polar bear especially.  It came right up to the window and would kick itself back and swim around right by them.  A couple of times it put its face right to the glass where Emma and Cal were standing, so I joked that the polar bear was giving them a kiss!

"Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?  I see some crazy Ryerse kids looking at me!"

Elephants!  Lucy likes to put her "trunk" (her arm) out now and make elephant noises.

The House of Apes was probably the most entertaining thing this time.  Why was it the most entertaining thing and not something you see at the Zoo every day?

See this gorilla?  I think our day to the Zoo should have been named "When Animals Behave Badly" or "Animals Gone Wild".  We were sitting, watching him, and he would play with this cardboard, start eating it, and then walk to the door where the zookeeper comes out to feed him.  He's pace back and forth back and forth many times doing this and acted impatient.  Then, out of the blue, he comes RUNNING TOWARDS US with his cardboard, SLAMS IT INTO THE GLASS, and RIGHT AT US!  It was so crazy, I've never seen anything like it!  We think he was upset because he wasn't getting fed and he was hungry!  I totally wish I got it on video and it might be up there with some YouTube greats!

Then, a while later, Kaison and Cal would just keep staring at it and making faces at this gorilla and he'd stare back and make faces too.  It was hilarious!

I can't believe the gorilla didn't repeat what he did before, Kaison and Cal really were kind of heckling the poor ape!

Look carefully back in the shadows under the tree!  There's a peacock there!  Emma loves peacocks!

The babies loved the zoo but got so wiped out by the end of it!

I love all of the animals at the Zoo but have to say the monkeys are my favorite.  I just love them!  Isn't it amazing how all of the animals really work together to do what nature needs and to complete the food chain?  It's a miracle really!

Turtle turle!  Cal loves turles and enjoyed seeing the giant tortoise and trying to dress up as one too!

 As you can see, we all were a little tired by the end of the day.  Just look at poor Tayla's face!  She is so red and all of the kids were so hot despite our best efforts to keep them cool!  But it was so worth it and a great day just the same!
