Dave, Cov & I were able to go with Lucy and have lunch the day she celebrated at school. Tacos for lunch, and the cafeteria food here is actually homemade and pretty tasty! Lucy and Cov were so cute together and Lucy and all of her friends thought it was so fun we came and loved chatting with us. We also made pink popcorn balls for her friends for her little class celebration. Cov and I were able to go out to recess and play with Lucy and her friends. Lucy was so proud I was there, and her she and her friends were very cute with Covey and enjoyed playing with and helping him. Callahan was holding my hand around the playground for a while until his friends were all out and ready to play soccer. And Emma came around to talk to us a little bit too, still not too cool for us. :) They had a pep rally that afternoon for the basketball teams who won the regional championship - so the kids were all decked out in their school spirit wear. Lucy told us she could listen to the pep band music all day and loved watching the cheerleading stunts.
Since Lucy's birthday was on a Sunday, and it was her turn to have a friend birthday, we held her party on Saturday. She thought long and hard about what theme, but decided on a Barbie theme about a month ago and never flinched. This seems appropriate since she loves playing with, checking out books and movies with Barbie. She loves dolling up, being over the top, doing most of the things Barbie likes, and anything that sparkles. We had it at the Friendship room at our local museum, which is a hot spot for birthday parties here. We started off by playing hide and go seek with Barbie while all the girls were getting there. Four friends were able to make it. There was a long weekend and the basketball tournaments Saturday afternoon, so not as many of Lucy's little friends were able to make it but her BFF's came, which meant a lot to her. She had Halle, Kaila, Brooke & Chloe and then our family. We had a little salon, where the girls got their nails painted and could get their hair done. Then we did fashion designer and gave the girls little barbie dresses they could glam up with glitter glue, little sequins, pom poms, small artificial flowers, etc. and then take them home to put on their own Barbies. The girls then took turns walking down the cat walk. They went down the cat walk to show off their looks and they posed at the end of it. Some of the girls were naturals, it was hilarious! After that, the girls were ready for cake & ice-cream. Lucy and Emma helped make the cake. So easy to do and they felt proud that they decorated some of it! Lucy said when she looked at the finished product "this is the most beautiful cake I've ever seen!" All of her friends commented on how much they liked it (and the popcorn balls). We put 6 candles on her cake, turned out the lights and sang. Lucy made her wish and blew out the candles. Then we enjoyed that with ice-cream, and I brought some healthy foods too, to which Lucy told me "my friends won't really want those healthy foods" but some of them enjoyed some veggies or fruits. Lol! After that, the girls went shopping at the Barbie Boutique. We gave them fake money and shopping bags and they got to pick out their party favors and "pay" for them. Lucy loved playing cashier best. Then we had dance party and played freeze dance. Lucy was all about spinning and playing the air guitar. We had presents next and Lucy got lots of Barbies! :) She was so excited about everything! Then we did some musical chairs, and the girl's parents started arriving to get them. It was a party, for sure! On the way home, Lucy told me that was the best birthday ever! The rest of the afternoon, we played with her new toys, read some Barbie and birthday books and watched the movie Trolls for the first time.
Lucy woke up at the regular time on her birthday. She wanted English scones with strawberry Devonshire cream for breakfast. She was so happy and didn't forget to remind everyone it was her day. We got ready for church, she played some board games with Cal and Cov, and then we made the drive. She was excited for everyone to sing to her in Primary! After church, we opened her presents from us. She got a birthday Barbie, some new clothes, a My Little Pony set, and some toilet spray -haha! She's been begging to get Poopouri, and so we got it for her. She was thrilled and couldn't wait to use it. "Yep, it really works! It smells like a combination of tutti fruity and raspberrys in there!" she said after she went. What a funny girl! Emma also made a cute card with a quote from Barbie that said "You can never have too much glitter" and gave her $5 of her own hard-earned money and Cal made her a Barbie poster. It's so sweet seeing them be thoughtful, all unasked and unprompted. We played with the new toys, looked at scrapbooks of her and her birthdays, got to do video calls with both sets of Grandparents. We had dinner and she requested our "giant cheese sandwich", tomato soup, pears, and huckleberry lemonade. We went around and everyone said what they loved about Lucy. Cov said he loved her so much. Dave said he loves how she shows so much emotion and is dramatic in all she does, and tells great stories, which is fun. I said I love her passion and zest for life and how we always know what she's feeling because she shows and tells us. Emma said she loves that she never gets bored because she always can figure out something to play. Cal said he loves playing with her. And I asked her if she had anything she liked about herself and she told me that would be really weird and awkward but we explained you should like yourself, too. I think she does, but she couldn't think of anything. Soon after, we did cake & ice-cream. Cal was trying to stab Barbie since it was already cut into from the previous day. She didn't like that. Oh, her faces and dramatic episodes!
When I was putting Lucy to bed she told me she felt something. I asked if it was happy, sad, good, bad...? She wasn't sure but said it felt a little funny. Then she said with a big smile "I think I'm exhausted from all of the birthday celebrations!" Exhausted indeed! She also said she still felt like she was five and didn't feel any older. That's fine with me, she can stay little if she feels like it! Lucy is so much fun to be around. She's always got the best comments about everything. She's a leader. She loves using her imagination. She loves drawing and doing arts and crafts. She is a good sister and friend. She is passionate and determined.
