We started out the day by the kids making him breakfast in bed, which was their idea. We made German pancakes with creamy caramel syrup. He liked that and the notes they made for him. Then we watched General Conference - yay! It was a wonderful day of Conference. A lot of the talks discussed loving God and our fellow men. I'd say Dave is very good at those things and we are grateful for him and his example in our lives! In between sessions, we were going to go to the Circus which was in town, but Cov and Sydnie were both really sick, so we decided to forego the circus. In between sessions and after, we had our own Ryerse circus prepared. First we played circus/carnival type of games. Lucy made tickets and gave and took the tickets at a booth she put together. We had clown bean bag toss, strong man competition, animal knock down, ball throw, balloon figures (Daddy looked awesome in the Helicopter hat they made him, haha!), and Emma did some face painting for those who wanted it. The kids were each in charge of doing a booth and so they figured out what they wanted to do and got everything ready and made for it and set it up. It was a blast and we laughed a lot! Found out Emma has excellent aim and killed it when it came to the throwing games. Then we had our own family circus. Coverton was the silent clown. Lucy was . Cal and Emma were the R Acrobatics team. I was the Mama Juggler. And Sydnie was too sick to do anything but just wanted to snuggle Daddy all day. "A hug!" "A hug!" "Dadddeee!" all day long. We were pretty entertaining, we thought. Dave brings smiles and laughs to us every day so we tried to bring him some on his birthday. For dinner, we had Dickie's Barbeque, which was Dave's choice. Bring on the meats! Then we had his favorite chocolate Costco cake that we decorate a bit with a banner and a tiger and a ring of fire. I like to decorate cakes, but this is one of the only cakes he really likes, so we get this a lot for his birthday. We sang loud and crazy to him and then we did the present thing. Lucy made him a little trinket holder out of an egg carton and some beads. It was very thoughtful and she worked hard on it. She thought he could put his gum, ear buds, chargers, etc. in there. Thoughtful girl! We got him a hammock and a stand, which he was excited about and has been getting some good use around here! The kids were brainstorming ideas and one thing they said was that Daddy works really hard and they wanted him to just take a break while we do all the work for the back yard. I'm sure he won't just be sitting around while there's work to be done, but he does like that gift. Happy birthday, love! Dave brings smiles and laughs to us all year long so we thought we'd give him some today. :) And sorry the pictures are out of order, which drives me nuts, I like them chronologically, but it doesn't put the pictures in the order I select them and I don't have time to do all that too.
