We woke up on Lucy's birthday and made some crepes. No one wanted to wake up that morning and I forgot to take pictures of her. Her hair was cute and done in the morning, but by the time she gets home, it's always crazy. ;) Lucy had a great day at school. She took some marshmallow chicken pops we made together to her class for a treat and they all sang to her. Sounds like it was a hit! She got to each lunch in Mrs. Berent's classroom, she is the school counselor and thought that was pretty neat.
She came home with two friends in tow, I kinda freaked because they sure didn't ask me beforehand so I was worried the moms were out looking wondering where these girls were. So I hurried and notified them and they were okay with it, but this hasn't been the first time Lucy and one of her gal pals has done this so she had a bad consequence can't have any more friends over this week because she knows to ask. She thought it would be a great idea to have them come help set up and decorate. Anyways, the other party guests came at 5:30. Lucy had Lauren, Ellie, Kaylee, Tosya, June, Kaleb & Hunter over plus our crew. Lucy took charge of the party and loves being the birthday girl boss. We had little party hats for everyone with chickens on them. Most were excited and wore them the whole time and got into the chicken theme. We did a little chicken craft that we did first. Some kids didn't want to so they just played with toys. They turned out pretty cute and the kids who did them liked them. Some made up a scavenger hunt to do which was fun. We ate dinner next - chicken drumsticks, chicken feed (veggies & ranch, apples), bok bok juice, and chicken toes (fries). They kids all ate it up and enjoyed dinner. So fun to hear their conversations. Next it was a chicken dance dance-off. Lucy kind of put herself in the lead and it was so cute to watch them all (Kaleb was not impressed, lol!). Then we did a few games. We did a lay the egg race where the kids had to blow up white balloons, put the balloons between their knees and walk across to the wall and back to where they started. It was a hoot and all enjoyed this one. Then we did a partner egg toss game with the cute felt eggs Grandma Di made. And then we played the classic egg on a spoon race. After that, it was time for cake. We made a Funfetti chicken cake which turned out pretty good and was quite easy to do! I also added sour cream instead of milk to the buttercream frosting and a little butter extract and it was really tasty. The kids all thought it was so fun. Lucy put the candles on, Daddy lit them, and we all sang. I love the faces she makes and her reactions to everything. Lucy picked orange sherbet, Neopolitan and cookie dough for ice cream. She decided it would be a great idea to make milk shakes and so lots of people did that with their ice cream. Then, we had presents. Lucy got lots of great stuff - lots of arts and craft kits, bath bombs, clothes, some Calico Critters, candy, Elena of Avalor doll, two stuffed chickens and some money from grandparents and friends. Of course, her big present for us will be her scriptures. She wants to pick out the case so we'll get them when we go to Utah for her baptism. Last we played a pass the rubber chicken game. We played a chicken song and had the kids pass the rubber chicken around the room and when the song stopped, whoever was holding the rubber chicken was out. Then they got to be the DJ and start and stop the song until the next person was out. They all enjoyed this! On their way out, we gave them all a chicken bag Lucy helped make with corn nuts, a rubber chicken flinger, some chicken feet gummy candy, and a punch balloon in it. All of the kids had a great time and Lucy loved it all!
We then played with some of presents and then looked at her baby book and our photo albums of all of her birthdays to this point and talked to family on the phone and opened cards from family. Then it was bed time. She said the day went by so fast but was so fun! It did go by fast, just like this past year. Eight, she's 8! Lucy is very excited to get baptized and she's been talking about it for years. We love this special girl and are excited for great things to come!
