Let the summer fun begin!

My favorite time of year, it's here!  We began the summer in Washington, all alone while Dave left to start an internship in Utah.  We survived but missed him.  It was nice and warm some days, while rainy and cold other days.  We were able to swim with the neighbors several times, go to the park, play ball, ride bikes, and go on walks a lot.  It is so nice, I just love it!

The kids all asleep in the car after a long day of fun...they all fell asleep!  When does that ever happen?  It did happen a few times, which is nothing short of a miracle!  Probably because I really needed a break!  It was hard without Dave home for a while!

We went swimming with the neighbors and friends a few times because we had some warm weather.  Here's Lucy trying to get their cat!

"Here, kitty kitty"

Cal running, he loves getting wet but gets cold easily. We used our crazy daisy this day!

Lucy saying "hello"...we loved just playing in the backyard every day since it was finally so nice!

Cal practicing punting with the football!  We found a hole that fits his football in perfectly, so we put the football in and he practices punting for hours!

Our pansies are growing!  We didn't plant much this year, since we won't be living here too long, but we are getting the jungle tamed and we planted some pansies to add color!  They remind me of the song from the primary song book:

Little purple pansies, touched with yellow gold,

Growing in one corner of the garden old;
We are very tiny but must try, try, try
Just one spot to gladden, you and I.

In whatever corner we may chance to grow,
Whether cold or warm the wind may ever blow,
Dark the day or sunny, we must try, try, try
Just one spot to gladden, you and I.

We love riding bikes, the four wheeler, and going on walks all of the time!

Lucy looking out the window.  We have lots of birds, squirrels and other critters always in the trees, on the fence, or in bushes.

We went to a birthday party, and Lucy loved this parrot that was there!

Emma with Mia and the parrot at Ayanna's birthday party.
We also enjoy looking for bugs!  The kids have been way into catching bugs and digging up worms and other critters.  I don't know if you can see it, but Cal found a giant ant (it's on top of the rock) that was as big as the top of his finger!

We had fun at the Lilac Days Parade with the Bennetts!

Cal just loves his Lily friend!

Hi-fives for the heroes!

I think Cal missed Daddy so badly (like we all did), that he would do things to remind him of Dad...like put on his clothes and his helmet.  It was cute!  We all missed him so much, and we were so happy when we were able to be all together again!

We went to Moose Park one day.  It was a really fun park!  They had a zip line that the kids went crazy for!

 The Moose Park Moose!

Then it was down to Utah for my brothers wedding and lots more summer fun!  The kids did well in the car on the way down and now we're having many good times this summer!

We were able to play with Amber a lot, the kids' newest cousin, while her parents were on their honeymoon.  Amber is a cute girl, we had a fun time with her.  And even though they were together so much, we really didn't have any problems with the kids fighting.  They did well and had fun!  This was when we went to Rocket Park and were playing in the forest catching butterflies and playing.

The kids have love, loved being able to live at Grandma and Grandpa's and think it's so cool they get to see them and their aunts and uncles and cousins so much!

Good morning, cute girl!

Lucy hasn't been sleeping very well lately, but during the day when she gets tired, she'll just go crash on a rug.  It's pretty funny the positions she'll sleep in!

Daddy got some new glasses...and the kids wished they were getting glasses, too.  They had fun trying them all on!

The kids love going to spend time with Grandma Di and Grandpa Scott.  Cal loves playing Guitar Hero and begs Grandma to play with him!

We went to the new Station Park in Farmington.  It was pretty cool!  We got to see two fountain shows, they were not bad!

The kids loved the astro turf and thought it was so cool, they'd never played on it before!

They had some neat art around Station Park, this Goose was Cal's favorite!

They also had a fun playground that the kids loved!

After going to the park, we explored the shops at Station Park.  We went to PetCo, and the kids loved seeing all of the animals!  Then we went to Harmons after a long day to get a few grocery items we needed.  As I was rambling off the list, I was saying it out loud to the kids: :milk, eggs, potatoes, onions, granola bars..." when Cal piped in: "And we need a dog!"  (:  It made Emma and I laugh out loud!  Maybe someday, buddy!

We went swimming one day at Grandma Di's, we pulled the pool and hose out and slid the slip n' slide!  Woohoo!

Amber soaking up some sun!

Little cutie!

Swinging little boy...ah, the joys of childhood!

Two little monkeys!  Emma is still working on the monkey bars.

 Lucy sleeping...again!

One day, we went down to Salt Lake to the Church Art & History Museum.  Right now they have a special  Book of Mormon Celebration exhibit for kids.

The kids thought after crossing the street that every street corner should have flags like these!

Emma and Amber's favorite part was where they could dress up like Latin dancers and watch some interactive videos that showed them how to do some Latin dancing.  They wanted to do that the whole time!

Oi!

Cal fishing!  Around each activity, they had a picture of a person from the Book of Mormon with their story by it.  They also had modern-day stories from Latter Day Saints in Mexico or Latin America who have done some extraordinary things.  This was so worth seeing!

Lucy kept grabbing the fish and giving them to people!

Building with giant blocks (you can see Enos in the background).

The "Golden Plates".

They wanted to build something they could all fit inside...and they did!

The garden where they could plant and pick vegetables that were different shapes.

Cal's chicken that laid eggs, he had fun making it talk!

Lucy getting dinner ready for the missionaries.

 Driving, vroom vroom.

Cal at the fountain of living water.

Bailar!  We had a great time, and I would recommend visiting to anyone with kids!

At Grandma Sue's she has a raccoon that visits nightly and eats right with the back porch kitties Grandma feeds.  The kids get a kick out of watching it and it will stare right in and watch us!  We especially like it because our family mascot for family reunion for years has been a raccoon, so they've always had a special place in our hearts for raccoons.

One Saturday, we met up with our old neighbors and friends the Yangs at the Dinosaur Park.  Emma and Elisha were so happy to be together again!

Cal was a little worried at first and told us he hated dinosaurs!  But he changed his mind really quickly.   They loved all of the giant dinosaur statues, the park, digging for dinosaurs, checking out the museum, picnicing and eating snowcones, and being with their old buddies!  And we enjoyed catching up...It was a great day together!

Isn't this so true...Cal and Ana are dangerous and high voltage!

Cal and Ana held hands everywhere, it was so sweet!  And Emma and Elisha went arm in arm everywhere!

Our family...roar!

Xou and Dave!

Mel and Hlee...I love this lady!

Later that night, we went to Crown Burger for dinner then to a Utah Blaze indoor football game.  It was a fun game!  The kids (and Dave) love football and I actually like indoor football way better because it's faster pace!

We had a little excitement one morning as we were going to church.  Cal was getting out of the car, when his booster seat wobbled a bit and he fell out onto the pavement and straight onto his head hard.  We thought he'd be okay, but he cried all through sacrament meeting and was still the whole time, just wanting to have me hold him.  That's not normal.  Then we took him to class for a few minutes, but his teacher came and got me and said he told her his head hurt really bad.  So then I took him home, where he said it hurt so bad and he was so tired and just wanted to go to sleep.  Then he started throwing up, so we decided to take him in to the emergency room at Primary Children's hospital to check things out and make sure nothing serious happened.

We talked to some doctors (including one doc that helped us last time when Cal had an emergency...as he said, joking around with us "some kids are better for business than others".  Cal is one of those kids).  Then we did some tests and a CT scan of Cal's brain, and then waited and waited .

We found a potato bug (Cal and the kids of this generation seem to think they're called rolly pollys) that kept Cal entertained during our stay.  It was pretty cute how he'd play with it and talk to it and be concerned when it fell down off his hands.

Results came in: Cal suffered a minor concussion, but no damage.  They just said to be careful and have him take it easy the next while.  Even before we left, Cal was doing way better and ready to run around and play again and be Cal again.

At Grandma's, we try the best we can to keep routines regular.  It's hard for them to not want treats and watch movies all day and to think we're living here instead of on vacation the whole summer.  We wake up, have breakfast, do chores, practicing, workbooks, and then play and do an afternoon activity!  While Lucy's asleep in the afternoon, this is the usual scene.  The kids watching Scooby Doo with Grandma.  They love this tradition!  And try to do it more often than once a day...  We love Grandma Sue, she's so kind to us all!

Since we're close to the temple, it's easy to sneak away and do a session or go do endowments.  What a welcome retreat from life!  What peace is found in the temple that isn't anywhere else.  I love the temple, especially the Bountiful temple!

One Saturday, we went up to Golden Spike Promontory Point to go see where the East met the West on the railroad.  We went to their re-enactment of the ceremony, which was cool.  I hadn't been since I was 5 or 6.

Lucy thought the trains were amazing!  And kept pointing and saying "woah"!

We went with Grandma Di and Grandpa Scott, love them!

Cal was a fan of the trains and actually listened very well to the park ranger telling us about the trains and the history and railroad.

It was too loud for Emma, she had to close her ears...She's not big into loud sounds.

Laying the last spike...

It's been completed!  The re-enactment was cool.  Many of the usuals who do the acting were out that day, so they picked people from the audience to participate, as representatives of the railroad, the telegraph operator, a preacher, political dignitaries and more.  My dad was Brigham Young's representative, and the guy picking out the people to play the parts said about my mom and I and Emma, "it looks like you brought some of your wives along with you, too".  It was amazing how God was mentioned so much.  We had a discussion after about how we were impressed that the ceremony was started with a prayer, and the hand of God was acknowledged in all things.  Now, if a ceremony of that nature was held, there is no way that would happen, which is too bad.  Too many would be offended.  What a different life!

After, we had a picnic and watched a nest of baby birds and then stopped watching them when a Momma bird came back and made sure we wouldn't harm her young.

A replica of the Golden Spike.

Lucy asleep...again!

The museum was nice, and they had a cute Peanuts movie that told how the rail roads were built and talked about Promontory Point.  I'm glad we made the drive and went out there.

Then we went to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.  The museum was really nice, and had many fun interactive displays.  There just weren't many birds outside, probably because it was so hot and they were trying to stay cool.

Then we went to see the Brigham City Temple...it's beautiful and I can't wait until it opens and I get to go there!

The kids also love riding on Randy's scooter he got!  They look hilarious in the helmets he bought!  They go for rides all of the time and can't get enough!

So far, our summer is cruising by, it's more than halfway over!  I can't believe it!  More fun times and pictures and stories to come!
