A 7th Birthday Powered by Pickles

Coverton just turned 7, and it's kind of a big "dill".  If there's one thing this kid loves, it is pickles. He requested his room be painted pickle green.  Drinks the pickle juice once the pickles are gone.  Loves anything pickle.  So naturally he asked for a pickle birthday party.  It was a family birthday and we had fun!  We woke up and of course, he was ready to tell the world it was his birthday.  At one point during the day, he said it was the worst birthday ever because Cal hadn't wished him a happy birthday.  It was still morning, ha!  He relished in all the birthday attention.  He loved the sign and paper pickles Emma and I put up the night before and got so excited when he saw his pickle cake we made.  We made some pickle shaped pancakes with green food coloring (his idea) for breakfast, looked at baby books, relaxed and played, then we opened a couple of presents.  He got a game called Quick Pickle, and we had fun playing that.  Then, since he is such a big boy now, he decided he was old enough to mow the lawn all alone, which Emma helped him with. We played some more and then opened some more presents.  He got a snorkel mask, a light up drone, and a turtle sprinkler (he loves turtles too).  He was so happy and kept thanking us for a great birthday and all the presents and fun. He could also tell Cal really loved that drone and kept talking about how he's going to save his money so he could get one for him, too.  We went to Moo-Yahs next for some yummy burgers for dinner and then had to grab a few things while we were in Billings. At dinner, we talked about what we love about him. He's the comic relief, he's fun to be around, makes people smile, he has great faith, helps others.  Then we came home to sing to him (and he sang to himself loudly, too), and ate his pickle cake and ice cream. He had the idea to hide a real pickle in the cake that we wrapped with tin foil and dried a little so it wouldn't seep out any pickle juice. The person who got that piece would get a prize.  Of course the birthday boy got that piece!  We gave him some birthday hugs and then it was time for bed.  Another year older, we are loving the boy he is becoming!

A very sweet boy who offers to help do things without being asked, or pitches in when he can tell others are sad or need a hand.

Cov makes the best faces and comes up with some pretty funny things to say.

Wins the award for the person who passes the most gas in our family.

Is very protective of Sydnie, and is always making sure she is safe.

Loves to play with friends and is a very social boy.

Has a sweet faith in God and Jesus Christ and turns to them for everything.

Really wants to know how everything works and how everything is made.

Cov is very apprehensive about things sometimes, like starting new things or new school years.  But once he gets going, the anxiety lessens and he ends up loving things.

The Child is 3

We celebrated our baby's third birthday on the 1st!  She is not so much a baby now but a child.  She has been asking for a Frozen birthday for the last several months but then changed her mind and said she wanted a Baby Yoda or The Child (from the Mandalorian) themed b-day.  So that's what we did!

We had family in town so that was fun for her!  Aunt (Tia) Mayela, and cousins Amber, Tayla and Kaison were here.  The night before, the older kids helped wrapped her presents and decorated her room all cute.  Sydnie was so happy and excited about all the balloons and ribbons!  We made crepes for breakfast and played all day with the cousins inside and out.  We looked at her baby book. We got her a cute shirt that matched her theme (still wearing 12 month size for some of her shirts like this one).  For her party, we played with her new Baby Yoda doll, took turns hiding a rubber frog, since that's what The Child eats, and did Baby Yoda sculpting contest with green play dough.  Even the big kids really got into the activities!  We had some McDonald's for dinner (her request) with some fruit we put in "the egg", and some Baby Yoda cucumbers.  During dinner, we talked about what we loved about Sydnie.  We all agreed she is so cute, gives the greatest hugs ("Squeeze!"), is helpful for her age, fun to be with, silly, and just happy almost all the time.  She got some fun presents and is really enjoying them and was so excited to open everything!  She's been putting everything to good use and so have the kids!  Recently, I took a class on building resiliency in children during this time.  The lady doing the class said more than ever, we need to let the toddlers lead.  They are so full of wonder, excitement, always just happy, take joy in the simple things.  Sydnie is so this way!  Finally, we had our Baby Yoda cupcakes (just what she wanted, no cake, just cupcakes) we made that day.  Some of the girls helped.  They were cake ball tops on a homemade chocolate cupcake. She enjoyed singing to herself as loud as she could.  She wished others a happy birthday when they wished her one, too. So cute!  I love this age and sometimes wish I could freeze her!  Happy birthday to our Baby Cakes!

Sydnie at 3

Says some pretty hilarious things like "Are you kidding me right now?"

She is a very good helper!  She does well helping do chores around the house and if she sees someone needs help, she volunteers to do things for them.

Loves princesses, but also has a thing for Spiderman and Batman.  Likes to dress up like them and play with those toys, too!

Sydnie is a tease!  She gets into silly discussions.  Like once with Emma, they were going back and forth saying who was the bigger stinker.  "No I not.  You the bigger bigger stinker!  I'm a littler stinker."

She has some sass, that girl!

She loves going to Kid's Club daycare where she's upstairs while I teach preschool to the kids downstairs, she won't put up with getting pushed around and can hold her own.  Once, a boy was hogging the window and pushing all the kids away when the garbage truck was going by and all the kids were trying to watch.  Sydnie had seen enough and she went up to him, grabbed him by the neck, clenched her teeth, gave him the look and told him to stop it.  Mary, one of the ladies who watches them, let her do it because he had gotten in trouble repeatedly and wouldn't listen to her or change after going to time out.  After Sydnie, he sat down and didn't say anything else for a while or bother any of the kids.  She also tells the ladies things like "I need to speak to Miss Shannon, please" and tells them what's going down.

She gets so excited by the small things.  She is always putting her hands over her mouth and gasping or giggling or makes a cute wide O with her mouth when surprised.

Lately likes to start screaming at the top of her lungs if things don't go her way.  So she's going to her bedroom lots until she's done screaming.

Getting better at sleeping in her bed. Still comes in ours about half the week.  Those nights, we wake up with sore backs and necks.  ;)

We call her "baby cakes" as a nickname, so when we call her Sydnie Kate, she insists her middle name is Cake or says her name is Sydnie Baby Cakes Ryerse.
