Father's Day weekend was awesome...we got to spend lots of time with Dave and Grandpa Scott and Grandpa Dan were both able to come right around Father's Day.
First, Grandma Di & Grandpa Scott came to see Covey play baseball Thursday night. I love that they always come support the kids in the things they do. We had fun at the game, and then it was home for dinner. We had a Hawaiian themed dinner and the Elders came over too and shared a message about the Stripling Warriors. After they left, we talked and did face swap selfies which was so funny! Can you tell who is swapping with who? Grandpa Scott has become a softie in his old age. He really loves his grandkids! In the morning, Grandma Di made strawberry shortcakes and then they left. A short but sweet visit!
That afternoon, Grandpa Dan and Grandma Sue came to see us. They've never been to this house yet, so they came to check it out and see us. We talked and got them settled, and then Dave came home and we had dinner. After that, it was time for more baseball. Covey promised his Grandparents a home run, and he got two homers and got to second base too on his third batting. He also had some good plays playing shortstop. The score was 20 to 2 or something, so Cov's team blew them out. The next morning, we got up and went to the local parade. Dave was able to fly in a helicopter which was amazing for him since he has a love of helicopters and wanted to be a pilot once. They flew all over Kemmerer. Dave was in the parade on the EMS float, which was a boat and Dave got to be Davey Jones from the Pirates of the Carribean movie. He threw lots of candy to the kids and some t-shirts out too. The kids got lots of candy and Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed the small town parade. Then we went to the gem and fossil show. The kids got to search for and cut fossils, which was way cool. We can't wait to go to the quarries later this summer. Then we went inside and found a few treasures and even some of us won some door prizes. After that, we headed home for lunch, some took naps or played, and then we were back out. We saw the water fight, which was teams competing with a firehose to get a bucket on a cable in the air sprayed over to the opponents side first. That was fun to watch. Then we walked around the different booths and supported some of our friends and got a couple of things. We watched a bit of a music concert going on and then headed to El Jaliscience for dinner. After that, we watched a PBS documentary showing of Fossil County at our local theatre. That was pretty cool to see and hear the stories and find out what goes on right in our own back yard. Incredible! Grandpa and Grandma said they can't wait to come out and dig for them next time they come see us. We came home and had to watch a movie since they missed movie night the night before. Emma picked The Raven, an old movie which they enjoyed. We like to watch classics and old shows...the good stuff...with them. Sunday morning, we had an omelette bar. Callahan helped me (Grandpa dubbed him "sous chef") and we gave Dave and Dan menus to choose from. We also had Krispy Creme donuts we bought from a friend doing a fundraiser the day before. They liked it! Then we hurried off to church. The program was great, the same Elders that came over earlier that week spoke and the Primary sang inbetween their talks. Mom played the piano and Lucy, Cov and Cal sang. Lucy spoke inbetween and she talked about how she feels her Dad's love through Priesthood blessings, before school or as she has been sick. When he prays for her, she feels happy and knows he loves her. She did a great job! The we sang was called "When I Hear my Father Pray" by Lloyd T. Hanson and Laurence Lyon. It is so touching. I am thankful for my dads and Heavenly Father. I am grateful for the prayers offered up by my Dads. I feel the power of those prayers as they pray for me. I am thankful for my Heavenly Father who listens to my prayers and helps me feel His love and confidence during and after those prayers to Him. After church, we headed home and prepared lunch. We had a Dad Joke themed Father's Day. We had chicken, twice baked potatoes, rolls, ranch salad, banana blueberry fruit salad, and chocolate bundt cake for dessert. With each item we had a joke by it that matched what the food was. Then we read a few Dad jokes and saw if anyone could guess the answers. We gave Dad and Grandpa Dan these 9 in 1 multipens with all kinds of gadgets on them because they are "de-pen-dable" (badoom ching!) and some cards. We said our goodbyes to them. Then we had our family Zoom meeting where we shared our last month, our favorite Dad jokes and played a little Dad Joke trivia. We had some good ones! After that we had to head to our self-reliance class. Then we got back and opened presents. The kids made some fun things. Callahan made a Washington State carved plaque which Emma helped him paint. They all made cute cards with fun sayings that were thoughtful. Lucy gave him a bunch of suckers. Covey made a box head he carved out and was going to paint but didn't get to the painting part yet. Sydnie made some cute drawings for him. We got him these light glove things, a four wheeler storage kit, and a rashguard. Then we had our Come, Follow Me lesson by Callahan. We had pizza for dinner. Then the kids went outside and played Capture the Flag all night (Dave and I watched a bit...too windy and cold for us, lol!). It was a fun day celebrating the Dads in our life!
